"Key registers on keyboard but not on computer" fix

I fixed a keyboard problem I never found a solution to on the internet today, so I’ll add the solution here for posterity.

After a windows update, the windows key on my mechanical keyboard stopped working. The key lit up when pressing it, but did not do anything. This was the same on every computer, and wasn’t related to “windows lock”.

The solution to this problem is to remap the key in the registry using a tool like sharpkeys to any other key, then remove the mapping.

The problem seems to be related to firmware corruption during the windows update process.
